At Chesapeake Behavioral Health Center, we believe healing begins with the whole person, mind, body, and spirit, no matter their age. We’re excited to expand our specialized care to younger patients, offering the same compassionate, holistic approach that has supported our community for over 20 years.
Whether your child is navigating anxiety, big emotions, school stress, ADHD, mood changes, or a difficult life transition, our team is here to help them build confidence and resilience, with support the whole family can lean on. We provide care for children, teens, and young adults ages 6–25.

About Our Provider
Zainab “Lola” Giwa, MSN, PMHNP-BC, FNP-C
Zainab "Lola" Giwa is a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, dually certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Public Health from UNC Charlotte, followed by her nursing degree and dual Master of Science in Nursing—Family and Psychiatric Mental Health—from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing Practice. Lola has built her clinical experience across Johns Hopkins, the University of Maryland, and outpatient pediatrics, giving her a well-rounded perspective on caring for patients across the lifespan.
Lola is passionate about treating the whole person, recognizing the deep connection between physical health and mental wellbeing. She brings a warm, approachable style to her practice, working collaboratively with clients and families to build individualized treatment plans that support lasting growth. Her background across pediatric, family, and psychiatric care allows her to meet clients wherever they are, with compassion and without judgment.
Outside of the clinic, Lola stays active through hiking and traveling, and has coached kids' soccer—bringing the same encouragement and team spirit to the field that she brings to her practice.

Your Child’s First Appointment

In Person or Telehealth
All initial evaluations are completed in person at our Reisterstown office. A physical officeprovides a safe, distraction-free space that helps build trust and encourages young people toopen up more freely.
Telehealth may be considered for some follow-up appointments only when it is clinically appropriate. We will discuss options with your family and recommend the approach that best supports your child’s treatment.

What is the minimum age?
We now welcome children starting at age 6. Our child and adolescent services are available for patients up to age 25.
Do I need a referral?
Whether a referral is needed depends mainly on your insurance plan. Many plans allow you to schedule directly, while others may require a referral or prior authorization from your child’sprimary care provider. We recommend contacting your insurance company to confirm their specific requirements.
Is telehealth available for children?
All initial evaluations are done in person. Telehealth may be considered for some follow-up appointments only when it is clinically appropriate. We’ll discuss the best approach with your family based on your child’s needs.
What happens during the first session?
The first appointment focuses on getting to know your child and understanding your family’s concerns and goals. It’s a conversation, not a test, and there’s no pressure to have everything figured out.
